When you get to Hat Creek,  give a call on 146.415 Mhz.  You'll probably get to hook up with someone who knows a little bit about flying the Rim.

Hat Creek Rim flying site is maintained and kept nice by the pilots who actually fly here.

It is an unregulated site and does NOT require you to have a helmet sticker, sign a waiver, belong to any club, or pay any fees to fly here.  However we encourage you to belong to USHPA for obvious reasons.  Nice magazine, the insurance and you get a rating.  Who DOESN'T belong to USHPA anyway?

Welcome to the Friends of Hat Creek Rim website

We are dedicated to preserving and enhancing hang gliding and paragliding free flight at the Hat Creek Rim.  We encourage all to come and experience the great air, open vistas and well-maintained facilities where 'flying like an eagle' is the norm.

Be sure to read the Site Guide (link) & FAQs (link) !

Please Enjoy Your Stay.

While pilots come to the Rim for the legendary glass-off there's a whole bunch of other stuff to do while you're  waiting for the afternoon winds.  Burney Falls, The Subway Cave, and The Pacific Crest Trail (which runs along the Rim right in back of launch) are but a few of the area's attractions.
